Word Party 2007 - A Celebration of Words

Word Party 2007, following the tradition of previous years, was a lively and well attended event.

Ulverston Sports Club, turned out to be an excellent venue; the atsmosphere was good and the arrangement of seating, stage and bar created a good party mood. The programme, in two parts with an interval, was a mix of poetry, prose, music, drama and announcements.

Contributors were: Fourth Monday Poets, Red Sky Writers, Poem and a Pint, Tinners Rabbit Reading Group, Rusland Writing Group, Rusland Song Writers, Poet Laureate Maggie Norton and members of the Word Market Committee. Word games and a quiz were part of the evening’s entertainment; ably MC’d by Ann Wilson.

The quality of the work performed this year was of a very high standard, a real tribute to Word Market’s contribution to literature development in South Cumbria. Inviting snacks on each table and a delicious party cake shared amongst the audience added a lovely touch to a really good do.

Here's the poem written for the event by South Cumbria Poet Laureate, Maggie Norton.

A Paradelle in Praise of Party People
who are Passionate about Poetry and Prose

Let’s celebrate the shouts, praise the party
Let’s celebrate the party! Praise the shouts
of celebrations – our days of wine and roses!
Celebrations – wine of our days and of roses.
Praise the celebration of our days – shouts of WINE!
and ROSES! – let’s celebrate the party!

Word Party’s about words popping.
Word Party’s about popping words
with games and music, and fiction and prizes
with music, and games, fiction and prizes and
words popping, about Word Party’s prizes,
and with fiction and games and music.

Let’s praise the popping prizes of roses
and words, music and with games about wine.
Fiction and celebrations – shouts of OUR DAYS –
and the Word Party’s Party Celebrates!
